Technology Transfer

in 2019

The IFAE KTT unit contributes to the valorisaton of part of the IFAE research results to transform them into innovative new technologies for medical applications, space communications or for the food industry.
The high capabilities in design, prototyping and commissioning of scientific instrumentation, added to the offer of singular facilities such as a Microelectronics Lab a Mechanical Workshop or a Data Center, makes IFAE an innovative R&D Institute, inventing turn-key engineering solutions to contribute not only to the advance of science but also to solve current societal challenges.
IFAE perform attractive collaborative research projects with the industry and provides patent licenses mainly based on novel radiation detection technologies for enforcing the market positioning.

Introduction

Along 2019 the IFAE’s KTT unit provided research support activities to 7 IFAE basic and applied research lines, with the aim to get the research results on high energy physics, astrophysics, cosmology and medical physics closer to the society. About 100 actions were performed related to knowledge and technology transfer, giving support to 33 IFAE projects, mainly in the fileds of mechanics, electronics & microelectronics, communications, computing and machine learning, 12 of them generating a total of 773K€ in revenues coming from public and private sectors, with an average KTT unit support contribution of about 4 actions per funded project.
